Privacy
No advertising trackers and nothing sold to anyone. Google Analytics counts visits, but only if you press Allow on the banner — until then it does not load at all. Separately, our own server counts page views without cookies and without keeping anything that identifies you. Nothing you type is sent anywhere unless you hand over your email address on purpose, and your shelf never leaves your own browser.
What stays on your device
The matcher keeps four things in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers you between visits. They sit on your device, we cannot read them, and they are never sent to us: the bottles you marked as owned, the one you crowned as your signature, your email address if you entered it, and whether you have unlocked the full report. Clearing site data for this domain erases all four permanently — there is no account and no copy on our side to delete.
If you give us your email
An email address is the only personal data we collect, and only when you type it into the form yourself. We use it to send a re-match when the season turns. We do not sell it, rent it, or add it to anyone else’s list. Ask and we delete it.
Money
No placement on this site is for sale, and no sponsorship is accepted. The buy and sample links are ordinary searches on FragranceX. That shop sets its own cookies once you arrive, under its policy rather than ours. The price on a card names the shop it was seen at, which is often a different shop from the one the link searches. The rule that matters is the ordering: the three bottles are chosen before any link is attached to them, so nothing here is placed because someone paid for it — this site will tell you when not to buy something.
The page count we keep ourselves
So we know which pages get read without asking you for a cookie, each page you open sends our own server two things: the address of that page, and the address of the page that linked you here, if there was one. The server adds one to that page’s count for the day, and for a link from another site it keeps only that site’s name, such as google.com. The counts store no IP address, no browser details, no cookie and no identifier, so they cannot be tied to you or to each other, and nothing is read from your device. The one exception is flood protection: a scrambled, one-way form of your IP address is kept in a temporary file for the rest of that day, so one address cannot add hundreds of fake views, and it is never written to the counts.
The same counter records one more thing: when you press a link out to a shop, it adds one to a tally of which bottle was pressed, which of the three prices it was, and which page you pressed it from. It is kept exactly like a page view — a number for the day, no cookie, no identifier, nothing read from your device, and nothing that can be tied back to you. We keep it because a shop’s first question is how many ready-to-buy readers this site sends it, and we would rather answer that with a real number than build tracking on people. We cannot see what you do once you arrive at the shop, and we are not told whether you bought anything.
Who else is involved
One third party is contacted when you open a page, and a second only if you allow it. Typefaces load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of serving the file. Google Analytics counts visits so we know which guides are worth writing, and it runs only after you press Allow on the banner. Once allowed, it sets a cookie in your browser and records the page you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you used. It is configured without advertising features, so nothing here feeds ad targeting and we never see who you are. Your answer is kept in your own browser, and you can change it at any time: . Choosing No thanks after Allow stops it and removes its cookies. The site is hosted on Hostinger, whose servers keep standard access logs.
Your rights
In the UK or EU you may ask what we hold, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be erased. Since the only thing we can hold is an address you gave us, erasure is immediate on request. You may also complain to your data protection regulator — in the UK, the ICO.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
